Call for Site Participation

This is a revised Call for Site Participation for Summer School 2010 at the Virtual School of Computational Science and Engineering.

The Virtual School of Computational Science and Engineering (VSCSE) is pleased to announce and actively seeking participation in Summer School 2010.

In 2009, the VSCSE offered two Summer School courses to interested graduate students: Scaling to Petascale and Many-Core Processors. Each course was hosted simultaneously by four sites via a high-definition video conferencing link. A total of six sites participated in one or both of the courses (CCT/LSU, EVL/UIC, NCSA/UIUC, NICS, OSC/OSU, UMich).

Continuing the Summer School tradition established in 2008, the VSCSE will offer three courses in the summer of 2010:

This summer we hope to double the number of participating sites. High-definition video conferencing technology will again be used to connect the sites, as discussed in the Technology Plan:

A site may participate in Summer School in various ways. To fully participate, a site must demonstrate its technical ability to do so by mid-March. See the Site Participation Requirements document for details:

Technical competency may be demonstrated by successfully completing the Internet2 Commons H.323 Training course, which will be held on the afternoon of Thursday, January 28, 2010. Registration for this training course is now open:

We strongly recommend you commit one or more of your technical staff to take this training. If your site has not yet deployed the necessary high-definition video conferencing technology (which is used to conduct the Summer School workshops and the training), there are sites (such as NCSA) willing to host a visitor for the purpose of taking the training. Please contact us if you need assistance or advice regarding this important training opportunity.

Planning for next summer's workshops has already begun. If your site is interested in participating in 2010, please write info@vscse.org or indicate your interest by completing the following doodle:

If you know of other sites that might be interested, please forward a link to this page.

Thanks for your interest in the Virtual School!
